Balaraman being called Vellai isavailable in Pingalanigandu. The Nigandu is attributed to 10th AD. Hence the literary proof can be taken there.

Next some on the words commonly used by Brahmins in tamilnadu. They call their house - aam, athukku. it is actually Agam which means house in Chaste tamil. Surprisingly Brahmins were calling their house " Aham" for a long period and it has a reference.

Thirumoolar compares the Aympulangal - as five cows in a brahmins house. Intrestingly, he uses the word aham for the house of a brahmin.
