Dear Sir, A little information about Cave Temples. 1. Tirukazhukundram - Vedagireeswarar Temple - Cave temple in single stone - with inscriptions of Narasimhapallavan (Vatapi kondan) 2. Vallam near Chengalpatttu - 2 cave temples, one for Vishnu and one for Sivan(Vedandeswarar) 3. Pallavaram - 2 kms from Pallavaram there is Pancha Pandavar Kugaikoil - one was converted into mosque. Inscriptions about Mahendra Pallavan and his discovery of Sankeerana Sathi ( one of 5 Thalams in music) is there. 4. Mamandur - Kancheepuram to Cheyyar route 1.5 kms from Mamandur 4 cave temples are there.- the inscriptions tells about Mahendra Varman's Mathavilasa Prakasanam and Dakshina Sithiram. 5. Kuranganil Muttam (owns sambandar devaram)- Kancheepuram to Cheyyar route Dhoosi village. 2 kms from Dhoosi Kuranganil Muttam is there. The cave temple is below ground level. 6.Mahendravadi - on the route from Kancheepuram to Sholingar, Mahendra vadi village is there. This is also by Mahendra Varman. 7.Seeyamangalam - Gingee to Vandavasi route a village Thesur is there. 1.5kms fromThesur Seeyamangalam cave temple is situated. Its name is Avani Pajan(Mahendravarman's another name) and having inscriptions about Nandhi Varman. These are all I have visited before some 7,8 years back and I also have a list of cave temples in southern districts. If time and health permits, I have plans to see them all.
thr Dear Kathie. I have a small list of 32 cave temples in southern districts. The photographs taken years back by me was very old in black and white. But our member dear Shreeram(Thrinethran -third eye, camera) and myself have planned to make a visit by next month. Surely we will post them soon.
