Am reading your 'Thillayil Oru Kollaikaran'. Will complete it by today. But had a small doubt on the rasavadham miracle in Chidambaram. Did it really happen? Are there evidences to substantiate that? You have used padhigams of Sambandar and poem of Thirumular as evidences. But did they really have a hidden reference to this alchemistry miracle?
Hi Mouli alchemy it was called, and regardless of borders or race men in the middle ages were after a method to change base metal into gold. todays science can do it by altering electrons but the process costs more than the gold.
it seemed a lazy man's wish- to change iron into gold but a lot of hard work followed the legend. people mixed all sorts of things to experiment and a new science was born- modern chemistry. so we didnt lose did we? the "chemical" industries of the daythe invention of gunpowder, ore testing and refining, metalworking, production of ink, dyes, paints, cosmetics, leather tanning, ceramics, glass manufacture, preparation of extracts, liquors, and so on came as by products of alchemic research but then any civilisation has the legend of the alchemist and the philosophers stone and the formulas to change metals
natural alchemy was a legend and is beleived to have happened ( by true beleivers) i am sure it cant be taken for a fact, but if alchemy happened naturally it must have been chidmbaram for the legends surrounding it abound here. i for one beleive it happened in chidambaram. but if you ask for details on alchemy you cant find it. legend overwhelms fact.

thillai chidambaram always was linked with gold in legend. long before the temple came up we have a sickly king bathing in the sivaganga tank and coming out shiny and clothed in gold. and ofcourse the gold roof and the legend that the dhikshithars used to get a gold piece at the feet of the akarshna swarna bairavar every dawn . and since we dont have any other ancient temple in this region covered by gold we beleive it.
