Hi panchavan madeshwaram is a palli padai. we visited the site amidst a banana field in 2005-a pallipadai built by rajendra for his step mother.
speaking on pallipadais, I crossed chidambaram today and found to my surprise that the village just before chidambaram is called " PALIPADAI" though there exist other pallipadai temples seldom is a place called by that name. in ffact people told us on that trip to panchavan madeshwaram that somebody had tried to erase the words pallipadi from that temple.
so how come a village is still known by that name. and it cant just be a co incidence that it is the next village to thillai the holiest temple of the cholas.
rajendra is supposed to have lived in this town while he built gkc. so who is buried here? or was a battle ever fought on the outskirts of chidambaram?
SPS and venkatram diwaker should be able to take legitimate and knowledgable guesses and enlighten us( the latter being an expert on kadavas and koperunchikan who also lived in this area)
