Combining these, I made a habit of taking soil from places of some significance - Bakthi - Patriotism - History etc., and also water in a small container - if no river - atleast from the temple tank / well -which is ancient.
It is long list - Madurai included.
Tiruppurambiyam lady was deserted by a Pandya and the Vanniatree with well went to Meenakshi Sundareswarar temple to give evidence of their secret-wedding! The story is exhibited in Tiruperumbiyam (Pallippadai - opening Chapter of PS - where Vijayala is granted his freedom to run his province) as well as Madurai!
