• Dear Priya
Welcome back...its great to have you back....I totallu agree with you its classic and masterpeice.
    Is it slow moving?
I dont think so....Ypu know when I read it before my Anatomy exams is "nd Year MBBS and Its a habit i a always have had to read something light for a few hours to reak the monotony and started this at 10 pm and couldnt pu it down till 3 am....the day b4 my exams....

Initially it is a bit slow but the moment jackal steps inside france it goes at jet speed. That novel is famous only for the plot,a man
who cannot be assasinated versus a man who dares to do it.Forsyth
    isnt popular like archer.
I disagree Forsyth is as famous as JA they are just in different leagues.....most of Archers stories are based on human emotions than great plots...and of course the best in archer is the last paragraph...or last lines...

    Shall we Tell the president?

Madam Preseident The President is dead:Prodigal daughter...

The president of the Baron Group did open the Warsaw Baron..William Abel Kane....Kane and Able

What do we do now? Pay himback not a penny less not a penny more...

Of course he has tried thrillers like Matter of honour and Honour among theives but their class is entirely different to forsyths...its like comparing Cussler and Clancy bot write thrillers but in different leagues...

I am digressing DOTJ was so famous that the movie was a blockbuster in the 80s in Madras...I still remember EVIL,Exorcist and DOTJ running packed houses....

Its probably the only movie where you feel sorry for the villian(hero) for failing in his mission...

August 1 was slightly inspired on this

I love his 'deceiver','fist of god'.But 'icon' was more of archer
type novel.Negotiator and double deal were boring to be honest.

I end up reading books which will not be liked by the rest. But I love those books madly.

I think people with good book taste do like them

I am suprised you forgot to mention the fourth protocol and Odessa file....of course the Veteran....You have to read the Whispering wind in the Shortstory collection of Veteran..

    The Biafra Story havent read
The Day of the Jackal *****
    The Odessa File ****

  • Hi doctor Rathnam,
Good ratings of forsyth novels.I forgot odessa and fourth
protocol.Ya,both were good novels and good movies too.Was forsyth
conservative party member?I thought the complaints he made against
labour party was serious enough for him to get sued by labor
party. He literally called them as stooges of KGB.Anyway it was nice
reading but the ending was unexpected--KGB itself leaking out the
atom bomb to british secret service,I like that novel and hate it
only for that reason.Realistic end to a heroic novel. It was like
police coming and arresting villais without a climax fight.

Odessa files was good, must have been the earliest of forsyth
novels.Even there the villian escapes, anticlimax but realistic
again. And It was interesting that you read jackal on the day of your
MBBS exams.I cant imagine doing it.I have to read like mad before
    exams.
  • And comon,only 3 stars for deciever?First 3 stories were
great, second one was incredible{pothemkin}.fourth wasnt that good.
