Wealth of Chola dynasty ?
  • Raja raja cholan and rajendra cholan - I conqured almost 90% of south east asia countries and bought wealth from there to built Big temple. In Olden days temple are also used as safeguarding place for their wealth . What are the chances that we have those chola wealth in big temple ? . Does anyone tried to research about those ? .
  • Good question. We did discuss this in our meet...

The possibilites are less, as RJC already diverted most of the lands of Big
temple to GKC. So he would not have left any wealth hidden in the Big
    temple.
  • Almost all the big ancient temples may have treasure beneath the foundation

of the main deity or the dhwajasthamba besides a secret passage for

emergency exit from the temple to another place. RRC should not be an

    exception for this !

There is such a secret passage in Thiruppunnavasal temple in Pudukkottai

district which is locatedin the Vallabhasakthi Vinayagar Sannadhi.  In fact the

temple priests once tried to explore the passage and they could not go beyond

one km ! Legend has it that the secret passage leads to the Rameswaram temple

whichis about 90 kms from this temple. This might beexaggerated but there
is a possibilitythat the secret passage must be leading to a replica of

Thiruppunnavasal temple in Theerthaandavathaanam, located about 2 kms from

Thiruppunnavasal which is in Sundarapandiyan Pattinam ( SP Pattinam),

    coastal area ofRamnad district.

Kanchi Mahaperiyavar had once told in a chat with Bharanidharan (Aalaya

Tharisanam, Aalaya Magimai etc. etc.) that whenever he visited this temple

he was not in the habit of wearing paada rakshaa as the entire area in and

around this temple was sacred and crowded with thousands of shiva idols !

I think there were such secret passages in ancient temples created by kings

to escape from the invaders in times of need. Several historians and historical

    writers have alsomentioned it !
