It was good 1.30 hrs of presentation by Dr. Chitra Mahdevan.
Topics was widely segmented as below Pallava Temples - Covering almost all temples of pallva and in particularly at Kanchi & more on kailasanatha and Ekambareswarar temple. Uniqueness between Palla temple and chalukya temple at Pattadakkal (town displays both Dravidian (Southern) and the Nagara (Northern, Indo-Aryan) styles of temple architecture), where chipri name was mentioned at temple inscription and he was from Kanchi.
Virupaksha temple, built by Queen Lokamahadevi (Trilokyamahadevi)in 745 to commemorate her husband's victory (Vikramaditya II) over the Pallavas of Kanchi. The temple closely resembles the Kailashnatha temple in Kanchi which served as a model for this temple. Where vikaramaditya donates lot of wealth to Kailasanatha after the war.
While covering kailasanatha, she shared few excellent photos from her laptop and really eye capturing.
Pandia Temples - Trichy - keezh kugai kovil, samanar padukkaigal, chitthanavasal, thirupparan kundaram, etc. She did highlighted that pandia area is not much explored as compared to pallava zone.
Choza Temple Mentioned about few chola temples and finally she got into to rajarajeeswaram and explaining few postures in the temple. Chembiyan madevi's contribution by converting the existing temples are kattarli. Also covered 3 main points - vimanam not made of single stone, Shade will fall on land and saarappallam may not be true.
She also presented evidences on during earlier stages the Raja gopuram used to be small in size and temple moola Vimanam will be a tall one. But later period after 12th or 13th century onwards temple innner viaman is much smaller thant he Rajagopuram.
Given the time, I think Dr. Chitra did covered quite a lot of on temple arch and its stages.
She will be having a 45 mins session on Srirangam temple t'row at 5.30 pm, Naradhagana Sabha.
