I was reading some of the old issues of varalaaru magazine published by Dr.Raasamanickanar Institute of Historic research. Few interesting things came to light :
* One of the inscriptions found by the researchers identified the name of hitherdo unknown wife of rajaraja chola - her name is thanthi kaamakotiyar.
* Reach in a place called pagoor has revealed interesting insights about the thennaven abhathudhavigal and possibly what might be the only representation of this group in the form of statues.
* Mathuranthakan kandarahithan - son of uttama chola - has given nivanthams in a temple located in vasishteswara temple at karunthittaikudi at the tenth regional year of a parakesari - possibly his own father uttama. Thus he was quite a youth when rajaraja came to power - not just a kid.
* Maamandur - near kanchipuram - is the only place having pandiyan structural and pallava rockcut temples in a single location.

mamandur is kinda' my native place.. my grandma from there.. I always hear my uncle talk abt. the historic stone writings near the lake and we used to dismiss that. It's been poorly maintained if there's any at all. next time i'll make it a point to visit..
