Wives of VT
  • hi sps/venkatesh.dhivakar sir

had asked this earlier. In Vengaiyin Mainthan VT makes appearance as old
man, but still with old wit - but some doubts, while the hero jokes about
VT, he says maama, how do you manage with two wives!. is there any
inscriptional basis for this claim. Cant imagine Kundavai allowing him !!!
sure we discussed this before, but forgot the result.
  • WITHIN NEXT 4 - 5 DAYS POST THAT INSCRIPTIONAL EVIDENCE
    OR PRIMARY SOURCE FOR THIS.

BUT THIS IS FACT- DEAR VIJAY.

KUNDAVAI IS A VERY VERY INTERESTING CHARACTER ..

OK... THERE ARE SOME INSCRIPTIONAL REFERENCES - SUPPORTING HER CHARACTERISATION !!

HER CONTRIBUTION TO NALLUR near Sundara perumal koil..
( which lead Kalki to think Nandhipuram near that was Sundara's capital. you know Kudavoil's references on this.. )

Her Constructing RAJARAJESWARAM at Dadapuram ( near Tindivanam)
    constructing (1) KARIVARADA PERUMAL TEMPLE
    (2) RAJARAJESWARAM SIVA TEMPLE (WITH the help of the same Krishnan Raman - who constructed the Thiruchutru of the big temple .. what a brillinat person... He put all the stone wastes around the compound inside, elevated it, constructed pillar mandapam and later on lingas were erected.... prior to that definitely there should have been Art gallery - because we find Nayak's paintings too.. and all the stone contain inscriptions of valuable details ..

Krishnan Raman's sons served under Rajendra I... Esalam CP identifies two of them !!

and OF COURSE KUNDAVAI "JINALAYAM " .. !!

THIS JINALAYAM lead to speculation that RRC's daughter became Madhevadigal (like Manimegalai - unmarried and adopted Jainism etc., ) and so Kundavai built ( one to satisfy her or the monks around her !!! )

MAHA DEVA ADIGAL is also Madevadigal !!

more so there to ponder upon...

  • Hi sps

    South indian inscriptions Vol 2

    No 67

on a piece of rock on top of the tirumalai hill

*The inscription is dated in the 12th Year of Ko parakesarivaraman, alies
    udayar Rajendra chola devar...

......The inscription mentions Tirumalai, ie, "the holy mountain," and
    records a gift to
the temple on its top, which was called Kundavai.Jinalaya, i.e., the Jina
    temple of
Kundavai. According to an Eastern Chalukya grant((and an unpublished
    Chidambaram
inscription), KaudavA (or Kundavai) was the name of the daughter of Rajaraja
    of the
suryavamsa ,younger sister of Rajendra-Chola, and the queen of the Eastern
    Chalukya
king vimaladitya. The Tanjore inscriptions mention another, still earlier
    Kundavai,
who was the daughter of tho Chola king Parantaka II, the elder sister of the
    Chola King
Rajaraja deva and the queen of the Pallava king Vandiyadeva . *

  • Dear vj

At kaniyakumari near partivapuram and vizilanjam there is hill called Tirumalai birth place of tirumalai naiyakar.this hill is surrounded by Thamiraparani river (kulithurai aaru)

This place was important place for their maritime activity with lakshadeep and maladive.

nearest this place only a place called kalingarajapuram where we can see a kotheswar temple, which was revocered from the sand dune at the depth of 7 meters.temple site is 3 km away from the sea .

    note

Munchiarai - Thirumalai Siva Temple:Legend says that Sri Rama worshipped here. History records the association of Thirumalai Nayyakkar's birth with this temple. Top of a small hillock (where Purusha Mirugham originally worshipped Siva) twin temples in one temple complex reside - one for Siva and the left one for Vishnu. There are beautiful carvings and sculptures.
