Kaveripattanam & Buddhamangalam in Buddhist Texts
  • Great Thiru Virarajendra!

It is really pity that BhadhantaBhuddhadatta Acarya's work 'Abhidhammavatara (originally in Pali text) was not taken serious by the present historians in exploring those day's chola desa. Bhuddhadatta's known proximity to Kalappira yet to be explored. He had the support of One great Kalappira's King Achuta Vikkanta (accut accutavikkanta kalabbhakulanandane Mahim samanusasante araddho ca samapito) who ruled over the whole of Sozhadesam during 5th century, from Bhutamangala (the modern Budulur near Trichi)

May be Bhuthamangala and Uraiyur both are nearby cities. Bhudhadatta calling his connection with Uraiyur 'Uragapuranivasikena

Thiru Vira Rajendra is doing wonderful service to PS readers by bringing such valuable sources.

  • Dear ViraRajendra & Dhiwakar

This is a very interesting topic. For Nagappattinam research, I had the opportunity to view several Pali texts like Milindapanho, Acharya Dharmapala's Netti pakarana attagatha gandha among others.

For example Milinda panho contains references to all sea ports of ancient india and there is a reference to Kolappattana - most likely our own kavirip pattana.

There is also a reference to Maturasutta pattana. Recall Hiuen tsang saying about an askhoka vihara on the outskirts of Madurai.

The references are too many and not yet fully explored.
