IT IS GREAT NEWS that our Gokul's RAJAKESARI' history Novel is being brought out in book form by M/s. Palaniappa Bros., during this Chennai Book Fair. This is his first child in book form and let us all welcome the new arrival in the new year.

Friends are requested to visit the stall and utilise the opportunity and buy the book. The story was very well received by history story lovers already.

    Congrats to Gokul.

  • Hi everyone

Its really wonderful news and thanks to Palaniappa Bros.
Congrats Gokul for his good work towards History and his novel.
I am looking forward the same for Serar Kottai also.

  • Dear Gokul
Welldone..I was just thinking last night after yeat another nailbiting finish in Cherar kOttai would it nort be nice to read it in one go
    Great news
    Sri
  • Congrats Gokul.
  • Dear all
Kindly accept my heartiest thanks for all the well wishes. But for
this group & its wonderful members, this novel would not have been
    written or published.

My very special thanks to ....

My father - But for whom, I wouldn't have had any attitude towards
tamil literature. He is always my first reader and a merciless critic!!

SPS - who has always been a constant source of inspiration & support
to me. Throughout the novel, I pestered him with several questions &
got beautiful answers as always. He was obviously not happy with my
portrayal of Rajaraja maarayar. But what to do? My story required that!

Mdm Seethalakshmi - She wanted to see rajakerari in print much more
    than myself !

Dr.Kalaikkovan - Whose guidance is a boon to any student who ventures
into history. His books "Thalicherik kalvettukkal" and "Chozhar kaalai
aadar kalai" were extensively used for Rajakesari.

Dr.Kudavoil - But for Dr.Kudavoil's masterpiece book on "Thanjavoor",
which was provided to me by SPS, Rajakesari would have lost all of its
    thanjavur colours.

To co members of varalaaru.com team (Kamal / Krupa / Ram / Lavanya) -
Whose association has helped me in more than one way. The launch of
varalaaru enabled wider readership of rajakesari(at that time PS mails
were accessible only to group members).

To PS group's many members, esp satish and sankaran - The duo provided
chapter by chapter feedbacks. To a writer venturing into fiction first
    time, this is a tonic.

To my reader Muruganandam - Whose feedbacks were vitamins

To venkat & Dhiwakar - My seniors & wonderful writers. I am a big time
fan of their kollaikkarars and vamsatharas.

To Pavitra & Lavanya(samudrakumari) - For their encouraging initial
    feedbacks

To Sri - who provided an elaborate feedback with the finale of rajakesari

To all members of this PS group - A BIG THANK YOU !!

To numerous readers of varalaaru.com - who read the novel and provided
    feedbacks.
  • Dear Gokul,

Congrats, Your serarkottai is also a sensational novel with surprises.
  • Congrats Gokul and Divakar sir...for the great work.

I am really proud to be associated with such a group.
  • Wow.. Congrats Gokul. After I read Rajakesari, I was wondering why the book
    was not published?
    Good it happened now.
  • Dear Gokul
    That was great

    vinjamoor venkatesh joind us late.
dhiwaker was kind enoughto visit me in my stall and pick up TOK. he
wanted me to autograph it too.
i was wonderstuck by his broad mindedness. in fact he has been
thanked in the foreword for some valuble links he gave me.

    my sales apart my purchases

    i bought 18 books of r. k. narayan including his autobiography( i
thought of you malathi when i paid the bill. its you who rekindled my
    interest in the Rasipuram brothers.

this was a special offer 1500 for a set that normally costs 2100.

    shop is "indian thought publishing"

also thse visiting palanaippa brothers to pick up gokul and dhiwakers
books should buy enthanthai barathi by sakunthala barathi.
it was published from a set of hand written notes of barathis
    daughter after she dies.
touching moving and really thought provoking. a first hand report on
barathis last days and the famiys tentions after that.

the book however was left incomplete.

  • Dear Venkat, am really envious of all you at the book fair!! Beleive
me I would have bankrupted my bank account. Barathi's daughter's bio
is so intriguing, it goes on my list of books, along with Muthu's
    very intriguing list.

Congratulations on KM and TOK sales and congratulations to dear Gokul
on the first book!! I am still on last part of KM and hope to discuss
    soon.

Enjoy RKN's bio, i wont' say much to spoil the fun!!

    Malathi
  • It was a nice meeting at Book fair. I understand the urgency in SPS(and my special thanks to him)and I felt sorry for late arrival (though the chennai roads were empty(!!!), our Sampath Sir (The Hindu)was driving veryslowlybut steadily as he turned that day only - a youthful 69) NDTV Vaithi came all the way from Vellore.I thank all the friends who came to the stall.

Venkatesh Kaviri Mainthan I have already got as gifts. This time I purchased TOK and his latest 'Kalki' for Mr.Sampath (ofcourse I have again got my share as gift) I should have purchased MuthuKumars' book too at Venkat's stall. But Venkat's gift applied mind stopped me. Today my brother has gone there and I told him to take Feroz Gandhi Book. I have purchased our Gokul's Rajakesari. And some more books related to Dhevan and Ealem. Even I purchased mine too (!) to show one copy to family.

Lot of people. Lot of New arrivals. Whether people purchase and read or not, the sign of more rush is a welcome relief in this fast running society.

  • > Dear Venkat, am really envious of all you at the book fair!!
    Beleive
    > me I would have bankrupted my bank account.

    Dear Malathi

it almost bankrupted most of our publishers too

the timings of the book fair clashed with chennai sangamam which was
a hit this year. i miss it but my son attends some programme or other
daily ( the attraction is the fabulous ethnic foods available)

the crowds were much lesser this year than last . but then there are
a dozen book fairs to lookforward to all over tamilnadu this year and
that must have stopped out station visitors.

please note thirupur, karaikudi and thirunelveli have book fairs in
    february.

the software crash too had its impact on higher priced books.
muruganandams comment was " those guys in baggy trousers, speaking
thanglish and loaded with 500 rupee wads were totally absent this
    year."

anyway most of us who did a 75% turnover of last year were releived.

    Barathi's daughter's bio > is so intriguing,

i was so impressed with it. it is disjointed mainly because it was
accumulated by a set of handwritten notes discovered much after the
    writer's demise.

    > Enjoy RKN's bio, i wont' say much to spoil the fun!!

I have a lot of reading time in the bookfair. completed WAITING FOR
    THE MAHATMA today.
not RKn at his best, i would say.
  • Venkat, RKN has written qutie a few 'not so impressive' books. His
bio itself is not really very impressive, although some of his
experiences and viewpoints that come thru' are interesting. I belive
he was a short story writer at core, so anything long that he wrote
    has its limitations.

Sorry to hear loss suffered by publishers.Yes this year is not the
greatest in terms of economic impact.

Am wondering if your kalki bio available in English?

    Malathi
