O B A M A .. President elect of the USA... Sweeping victory and his Speech .. laudable.. Hope truly this brings changes across the Globe.. Could see foreign Nationals like Germans .. French .. Afghans also appreciating for such change...
Truly Greatest Democracy..
Could help but recall THE MAN by Irwing Wallace.
BHEEM SINGH JOSHI awarded BHARAT RATNA ! One need not be Politically popular to get into this coveted stand... Even " cultural " acomplishment is recognised... Very good recognition..
Dear SPS, I was hoping someone would remember 'The Man!', thanks. Yes this election has given hope to many, including people like us who are regarded 'colored' in a technical sense. Let us hope Obama makes good use of the enormous good will generated and helps us through the economy among other things.
Bhimsen Joshi, yes well deserved. What is this 'national river' business? Would that include cleaning up the river of pollution?
I was stunned by the way the elections were conducted and the results announced the very evening. It was not a holiday declared here for elections (unlike India...) and people voted and came to office. Really commendable.
It was a great speech by Obama. The best thing I like was McCaines address....He was gracious enough to congratulate Obama and accepted the defeat and took the responsibility of the failure on him. And also added that, the result has come and he has lost, but will continue to work with Obama for the country.
Will such words ever come out of our politicians. If they loose they will say its the 'edirkatchi sadi' or 'kalla vote' by the opponents. Will never say they will work together to build a strong nation.
We copy all unwanted things from the west..when will we learn this nationalism from these people?
Bhim Sen Joshi... well deserved
And Ganga - a good step. As SPS pointed, let Kaveri follow suit.
Good point, Satish about McCain's graciousness to Obama in his concession speech. There was a great deal of 'weeping for joy' last night. My friends and I are so happy about the US election results. An African-American will be our president; with our terrible racist history, people I know had no idea that anything like this could happen in our lifetimes. So many of us pray that this will give the world reason to respect us again. Kathie
Dear Kathie, yes lot of emotions here too, and lot of long faces among red people. I think racism has a long way to go, but we have made a real good start. Obama has made it in a big way but has a huge lot to live up to, let us hope and pray he meets his challenges and helps us all believe we did right in voting him to power!!
Two weeks back, when I was returning after a business trip to Florida, I was chatting with the taxi driver on my way to home from St.Paul airport. Most of the taxi drivers I have seen are african americans, mostly from Somalia. He was talking about elections and confidently said that though Obama has the popularity he will not win, because people here are racist and at the last minute they will vote for McCaine because they will not wish to see a african american in white house.
Individually EVERY ONE in India should follow some discipline..
Like : waiting for the Proper Signal lights.. Adopting lane discipline.. waiting in queue to catch a bus .. Usage of Excuse me... thanks.. sorry .. pleasure.. and really feeling such terms.. Polite language.. soft voice.. self conviction... reasoning... without getting irritated...
I think me should cultivate it within my system.. extend this with my family... then with my friends.. and may be slightly beyond...
This should definitely begin at primary school level among the children ...
We can make an attempt first in a very small circle ...
Politicians will begin to understand the subtle language ... that a vast majority is gearing up for more decent polity ..
And I am tired hearing " busy " ... we can definitely find time for nicer things in life...
I know... we all crave for such decent happenings at home (India) too ...
A proud day for all the african americans and indeed for America and democracy itself. An example of the power of democracy achieving its good intentions instead of becoming a tyranny of the majority.
It was a good speech, but I have to confess that I have heard the speeches of many a politician and have lost faith in all politicians. Rhetorics are not sufficient; only the future will tell if his actions are going to be any different.
I understand Kenya announced today as a national holiday because Obama's father hails from Kenya!
Dear SPS, may I add 'healthy work ethic' too? Respect for labor and work no matter what it is is a great quality here in America, nobody looks down on anybody else because of their profession, there are no 'labor' and 'other', everything is just a profession.
