songs in PS & SS
  • Hi all,

Does anyone have softcopy of songs appearing in ponniyin selvan &
    sivakamiyin sabadham?
My personal top favorites are :
    1. Munnam avanudaiya naamam kettaal (SS) .. (This one has been haunting me
since I finished reading SS 6 months back)
    2. Ponnaar meniyane (PS)
    3. Vadiveru thiruchoolam thondrum thondrum (SS)
    4. alaikadaldhaan oindhirukka agakkadaldhaan ponguvadhen (PS)

I have become so obsessed with the first two that I am searching for it at
    this hour!!!

These songs have got me interested in thevaaram, thiruvaasagam etc. . I hope
to develop this interest, if only I can listen to these set to tune.
If anyone has an mp3 of these , please share it.

Also, please share some other nice songs which appear in kalki's works. It
would make an interesting thread for sure :)

    Thanks in advance

  • Hi Rajeswari,

Yes, I agree with your thoughts! I too have the same emotions while reading PS.

  • Thanks for the link Mr. Vijay.
But I am looking for more attractive tunes. For example, the
"kuniththa purvamum kovvai chevvaaiyin" part from Rakkamma song in
    Thalapathi.
I have just started looking into such verses. . and I think, tunes
like that make remembering the verses easier.

Its a pity our music directors dont use such verses much in film
songs.. I believe more people would get exposure to the wonderful work
if they do. Especially, ppl like me, who come across them purely by
    accident :)
  • Hi Raji, if you are interested in classical music you might find a
lot of singers who sing these verses in simple, endearing ways. R
Vedavalli has sung pasurams, MLV amma has sung Tiruppavai, MSS has
sung preludes to many songs with verses that are very memorable and
    clear.

My humble two cents is that it is odd to reduce these great works to
light music , the combination of the right music and verse should
take the person to the divine heights meant to be, which might
sometimes mean one cannot hum them in the bathroom.
