Next time you speak to Dr.Kalaikovan, can you request his permission for publishing excerpts from works of Dr.M.Rajamanickanar ? You may also have to get copies of books like Chozhar Varalaaru and Pandiyar varalaaru from him.
Then we can beging the work of typing with help from people in our group.
Also, enquire about the research papers / Books written by Dr.K and see whether we could publish extracts from them.
I spoke to Dr. Kalaikkovan today regarding the works of his father. He said that his brother Mr. Arasu in Anna nagar, Chennai is taking care of all his father's works. His phone number is 044-26269962. One of us can meet him and get what we wanted.
Regarding the content of varalaaru magazine, he will give the matter in ms-word format as soon as the offset work is completed.
Hi Kamal, Great progress. We need to spk to Mr.Arasu and ask for permissions to reproduce full books (may be a few) and parts of books (the rest). If posible, kindly get copies of the book too. The first should be "chozhar varalaru" - of course. Once we have the books in hand, we can think about uploading them.
Considering the massive work at hand, can we not experiment with OCR in tamil ?
THOSE WHO HAVE TRIED OCR BEFORE - CAN YOU TRY DOING THIS IN TAMIL ? IF IT IS NOT POSSIBLE, THEN WE HAVE TO TYPE THE ENTIRE BOOK OR SCAN IT.
What I suggested was the possibility of reproducing books like - "Cholar Varalaru" online, with Project Madurai. They have Ponniyin Selvan online and members of this group helped them by proof-reading.
We can talk to the authors and also with PM people and do what we can to bring such books online. Some authors may hesitate, because we are just starting out.
Anyway, just a thought.
anpudan, Mathy
