Iam a new member. Please read through.
  • Hello all,

Nice to be a part of this group. To introduce myself, iam Arun, a s/w Engg in Bangalore.
I remember when i was twelve when my aunt started narrating me the story of ponniyin selvan and from then i have been addicted to it like anything. I have read it umpteen number of times as any other meember in the group would have and my fav character in the noevl is Nandhini.
Ponniyin selvan is something i may never forget in my life because iam wondering if it would be my next career path. yes. I have been dreaming of writing a historic fiction for sometime now and have been postponing the idea because i thought i did not have the much needed experience. Finally one day this year, i decided to make a start and push things forward and see how it works out. The result was that i was able to come up with a framework for a historic fiction . I did not want to postpone things and so started writing it. I wondered it would be better to make it online and recieve comments as i wrote it. So i had to restirct myself to writing it in english. (though i would love to do it in tamil)

The novel is named "ilavarasiyin megam" (The Cloud of the Princess) and it has just started and 11 chapters have been written. It is available online at

    http://tcotp.blogspot.com

Since this group loves historic novels, i thought it would be the right place to look for critics/comments. Hope my amateurish attempt amuses you.

I have also started a community in orkut for the novel and it is slowly growing in size. You can also join it at
    http://www.orkut.com/Community.aspx?cmm=22505821

Looking forward to your comments/critics. It can nowhere be near PS, but still a noble attempt :)

    Thanks folks

    Arun.
  • WELCOME MR.ARUN.
    GOOD & INTERESTING THOUGHTS FLOW.

We have Gokul - Vizag Dhivakar and Pavithra here who are
    acknowledged writers.

Venkat is publishing his book very shortly.

Will read your blog and opine soon. Best wishes, sps
  • Thanks Sivapathasekaran.
    Your reply is appreciated.
  • Dear SPS sir;
Everytime Nandhini is a topic in this group you start about
    TR.Rajakumari,Vaijayantimala&Co!
;) i dont know how many of our group members noticed this. ;)
    Yennamo ponga sir...
  • Hi Arun,

We - Bangalore PS Members- planned to meet on coming sunday at 4.00PM.
Place :-Balista Coffee shop, St.Marks Road.
We invite u for the same. Eagerly waiting to meet u.
  • Thats the beauty of both the character and the author. Just the
mention of the name and voila... so many replies and it triggers so
many different branches in our brains. Thats what Nandhini was
capable of through out the five books and the only person, though
attracted, got over it--VANDHIYA THEVAN--and thats the reason even
Nandhini falls for him as someone who is unattainable to reach even
for her with all her vilely charms!

  • If Dhiwakar was to reply this....(Diwa mannichidu un copyrigha naan
    copy adichiten)..

"ponga sir..VD-avathu Nandhini kitta vizhamayavathu.avan bayangara
jollu parti. pakkumpothellam Nandini kitta vizhamaya irunthan. ana
avanoda kashtam avanukku. Knowing Nandini being a Pandiya patron, ava
pinnadi pona sothu prachana jasthi. kadu medu malai ellam suthanum,
nerathukku soru kedaikathu. Kundavai-na jollya aranmanai mappilaya
    ukkandhu mooku pidika sappidalam..

So based on this decision only he didnt fall for Nandini."

    Enna Dhiwakar, correcta....

By the way, for the group, Dhiwakars wife delivered a baby boy last
    week.

New members, if you feel bad about the above reply, request you to
kindly look into the archives during sep-oct 2005 mails of this group.
Each and every character was torn to pieces while analyzing them and
Dhiwakar has a real good third eye which we all miss.
  • Congratulations Dhiwakar.. :) So what are you going to name your daughter? Nandhini or Kundhavai or Vanathi?
  • Super analogy Satish and Congrats to Diwakar:)
  • Hi Nanda,
Diwa had a baby boy according to Satish, so we can ask
him......are you going to call him Selvan? or .....
    over to nanda:)
    -Deeps
  • HI Deep..

Sorry my mistake.. in my eagerness.. I just overlooked a simple fact.. one of my family friends have named their son Vanthiyadevan.. :) The guy was so obsessed with Ponniyin selvan that he had named his son so.. I bet dhiwakar will go for arul mozhi .. what say?
  • Nanda,what a fantastic name for a child
"Vanthiyadevan" and Diwa, what are your naming your
    little prince?
    -Deepa
  • what a time we used to have last year when diwaker the pungkuzhali
hater and nadarajan srinivasan- a pungkuzhali fan battling it out
however diwaker never had a good word for any charecter of kalki's

    venketesh
  • So Diwa will certainly not borrow a name from PS for
    his little prince:)
  • I am actually impressed by anabhya kulothungan.. and karunakaran thondaiman from Kadalpura... ;)
