In the very first chapter in PS while describing the beauty of the famous veeranam lake, Kalki says that Adhitya Cholan constructed 64 siva temples all along the banks of Cauvery right from its start. Is it true (it has to be). Can some one tell the locations where these were built and how many are still standing now?
In 985 AD, Rajaraja ascended the Chozha Throne. In 1012 AD, Rajendra was also made the King. After 1014 AD, 29th yr of ascendence from 985 AD, we do not have any records of RRC..
Rajaraja Chozhan commenced construction of the Brahadeswara Temple, Thanajvur in the year 1006 and completed it in 1010 AD.
The 1000th year of commemoration has been planned to be celebrated last year itself and that is the reason why we created our website "www.thebigtemple.com"
Our enthusiasitc member Kalinga Balu is planning to organise a Dance - drama and photo-exhibition along with sale of Tamil culture-related gift items - like Thanjavur plates / paintings / Naachiar vilakku etc in Bhuvaneswar by end November involving Bharathi Tamil Sangam, Bhuvaneswar.
Dear Dhivakar has shown interest to conduct a similar programe in Vizag where he is planning to involve Vizag Tamil Sangam.
Mrs. Uma, Mumbai has almost completed arrangements for the Dance - Drama taking guidance of the well-known Dance Artistes.
Obviously conducting such programmes needs support - including financial support from various sources.
Those interested to support individually / collectively/ through Sponsors are requested to give some indication through private email to Kalingatamil Balasubramanian or Mrs. Uma.
The best answer to your Question is that You please refer to the Wonderful Field survey cum BooK written by S.R Balasubramanian titled Early Chola Temples, Asian Publishing House , New Delhi.
Aadityan may have reconstructed the thyagarajar sannidhi @ thiruvarur.
but since he was 150 years from the last thevaram singer sundarar he could have only rebuilt these temples. but the historical claims are he did 64 new ones.
Thanks for the response. However, the reason for my question was in PS, Kalki says that during Sundara Cholan's reign itself construction of temples using stones was in vogue. Also after Aditya Chola was nominated as heir apparent, he was given the powers to make "Kalvettu". If so, Aditya cholan must have used stones and there must be more temples and there must be "kalvettu" available in these temples.
the aaditya we are talking about is son of vijayalaya the founder of the second chola empire
