Nothing specific has been stated except that it is tamil brahmi script containing 13 letters in a single line. Possibly in some tamil daily it will be given in more detail. The menhir is defined as a standing stone erected for the dead. The face of the slain hero is seen clearly as seen from the right in the photo.p 6/tiruchy edition/the hindu/24/9. The v.c. says that it is for the first time that Brahmi inscriptions are found inscribed in the menhir that throws challenges to archeologists. Naturally we have to await the outcome from their further study.
I remember there was a similar news article mentioning tamil brahmi dating 500 BC, with the word "Kariya Ravana" inscribed on the INSIDE of a burial "pot". Does anyone remember/have any update on it?
