Dear, sriraman, S.Gokul,SPS,Bala and Venkatesh and friends,
I have been searching for the information on following Topic but yet to get any trace of Information . If any of u know about it, Kinly bring it to the notice of our members.
It is said that, After the Annexation of whole of Srilanka, Rajendira -I brought the Pandyan Royal Insignia and Magudam( gifted by the Lord Indira to the Pandyan King Probably Veera Pandyan) ( Sundara Chola's Counter part ) to the Chola Heart Land. Later It was acquired by Dutch and was moved out of India. Now Whrer It is ? Some unreliable information says that it is there in The Hague Museum, The Netherlands . Is it so.?
some matter I got about this event In 1802, William Garo was the Collector here. He was living in the Travellers Bungalow of the Highways.
When he was sleeping in the night on one day, he dreamed that a little girl disguising herself as Vedhanayaki called him out of the bungalow. Accordingly, as he come out of his bed, soon after the roof of his bungalow collapsed and fell down. Wishing the blessings of the Goddess,
The Collector has donated an IVORY COT (PALLAKU UNJAL) and has carved his name on this cot. The date of the cot is 11.01.1804. Carved on the cot is still lying in the Vedhanayaki Amman Sannithi.
I am not sure about this story, but nevertheless another durai story from Thiruchendur.
The english durai(name unknown to me) had gone to the urchavam and had asked the priests as to why the Camarum was being waved for the idol, after all its an idol.
Priests had in turn replied that even the lord will be sweating to the heat in thiruchendur. This enraged the durai and he had asked them to prove it.
Priests stopped waving the Camarum and then after sometime, used a cloth to wipe the idol of Lord muruga and lo behold the cloth was entirely wet. This Durai in turn fell at the lord's feet and prayed for forgiveness for his mistake.
I had read this story in the wall paintings at Thiruchendur and probably people from Thirunelveli and tuticorin can prove more details for this story.
For that matter, in Madurai "Kal yaanai Karumbu thindra kathai" is very famous.
For those who dont know the story........
In Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple, the main santum of Lord Shiva is protected by 8 elephants in eight directions. When MalikKafur (I am not sure, but some muslim king) visited this santum, he was told about that. He who didn't believe it, asked for proof if those elephants are real or just sculptures.
To prove him, one of those elephants was fed with a bunch of sugarcane and the elephant ate it. Even now among the 8, one elephant scultpure has sugarcanes in its trunk.
