The legend may be false But may be he compiled it as a collection....If I am right one of his names in the kalvettukkal is Thirumurai Kanda Cholan ....So what did he do to inscribe himself like That
"Dear All my understanding is that periya koil has many puranic images of thirumurais and periya puranam so was he called Thirumurai kanda cholan for that reason
Dr. kudavoil mentions that there were lot of rewriting of kalvetttus. may be someone, say like us who is too preoccupied with Rajaraja's seemingly glorious acts might have taken this chance to write in praise of Rajarajan like this
just because the thirumurais were locked up did not mean people did not know about them at all.locally thevaram was being sung too.and transmited by word of mouth.
actually there were 274 paadal petra sthalams. then one entire thevaram was discovered as a temple kalvettu in thiruvidaivaai near koradaachery.
I think the termite eating the thevaram theory comes because of the huge gaps in some songs.( say only 6 out of 11 songs of one temple were found).
I think the nambiyaandar nambi songs will give us a clue.
though the evidence for rrc discovering the thirumurais is less, the evidence against it is less too
