In adhyantha kaamam - popularly known as Dharmaraja ratha, ground floor - there is a figure of a standing male with ornamentation. He has only two hands. He has been accorded a place in comparison with the gods - judging by the figures present in other niches. There are several birudha names inscribed all along this three tier structure - all of them being the biruddhas of Rajasimha pallava. But surprisingly not a singly biruddha is seen below or above this male sculpture.
Dr.R.Kalaikkovan and Dr.M.Nalini, respected scholars of Dr.M.Rajamanickanar Institute of Historic Research - have done extensive study of this temple and have bought out a book titled Adhyantha kaamam. In this, in the photos section, the authors have suggested that this could be rajasimha pallava. This has not been dealth with in detail within the book - but in the photos section it is given in brackets meaning that it is a suggestive proposition.
I asked Dr.Kalaikkovan about this. He said "It cannot be anybody else !". Such is the confidence of this highly respected scholar whom I adore.
ahah....I was under the impression that the structure in Adhyantha kaamam has the name written to identify it. Then this is also a hypothesis? I cant digest this.
