Chozha Army
  • There were certain regiments known from inscriptional evidences:
kaikkola - Velaikkara (mercenary in nature one view; ever ready to
defend the King sacrificing their life when occasion arises- another
view). Srilankan King Vijayabahu adopted this pattern in his Army in
1110. Parivarattar (Guardsman attached to palace). Non Tamil
Regements were Kannadaka - Kaduttaalai (Strong-heads of Karnataka),
Malaiyan orraiccevagar (Malayala Infantry). These regiments were
comprised of villigal (Archers) sword-bearers, and spearsmen.
Niyayattar seems to be indicated the Military Group in general.

Next to the infantry there were cavalry and elephantry. Chariots were
not significant. Captain was called Nayagam @ Padai mudali. Above him
were dandanayagam, senapathi. Lands assigned to Military was called
Virabhoga (enjoyment) Padaiparru (holding). Contonments called
Padaiveedu in Capital Cities; Kadagham / parigraham elsewhere.
Stationed military outposts called (Nilai padai).

Re Rajendra's inscriptions found in Orissa / Bengal and overseas
several studies have already made and published.

Re Karikalan's going to Himalayas, a pass is named as CHOZHA PASS
    even today!

There are instances where Moovendars fought the Wars together against
    common enemies.

None of us is trying to belittle Sundara Pandiyan - who brought an
end to the Chozha supremacy - after 400 years - with undying
    Patriotism!

Wars among Moovenders were Political compulsions .. We are looking at
    other achievements as well ..

    thats a good approach sir

when we say that cholas or cheras or pandyans invaded the north we
should definitely have collabarative evidence from there.

first of all if there is an un interrupted line of kings in say kalinga
or gujarat we should take it as no colonisation took place.
    invasion perhaps.

but frankly collabarative evidence is very little.
fantastic claims are usually made with a vision clouded by patriotism

there are claims that tamils went up to sind
that they fought with alexander the great.
    but very little collabaative evidence.
