I read somewhere that Sivalperi of "Sivalperi Paandi" fame (movie with napolean?) is a lake constructed by
Srimara Srivallabha Pandya - that Srivallabhan Eri eventually got corrupted to Sivalperi. Like Vira Narayana ari becoming Veeranam.
It is a interesting pursuit to track down the roots of various place names in Tamil Nadu. Some village "Meen Suruti" was called so, coz Pandyas in retreat folded up their flags to faciliate the retreat.
I am intrigued by the place "Vengai Vasal/Vayil" in greater chennai area itself, what an unusal name.
There are many inscriptions in this place, that belongs to Third Kulothunga. Maadambakkam, Dhenupureeshwhwara Temple, is belived to constructed during the period of Anabhaya Kulothunga, Kulothunga -II. And the outer wall constrcuted by the then Pallavas.
There are extrensive research in this area carried out by Mr. Siromoney.
