Nakkan Thillai azhagiyar
  • > But, the fact about Pachavanmadevi seems to be true. She was a
    > devardaiyal referred to by the name 'Thillai azhagi'. I believe, she

This requires further studies. Kuvalalayaththar Ambalavanan Pazhuvoor
Nakkanaana Vikrama chozha Maarayar was by no means an ordinary person.
If Thillai azhagi was indeed a daughter of this gentleman (forgot what
is the inscription that links these two) there was no need for him to
give away his daughter as a devar adiyar. we can speculate some drama
    behind all this.

    > Devaradiyals born of royal blood, were reserved for the king, I
    > suppose.

Oh No no ! Not at all ! Almost all devar adiyars - as the name implies
are those who became devotees of the lord. Few did marry (Chathuran
chathuri of Thiruvotriyur marries Nagan perungaadan) but most were
doing temple service. Those who evendually did not marry were called
padhiyilar. Relatively more provisions were made to the latter during
    endowments
