I wrote an article in Tamil for the Yahoo group '[email protected].'. I have given it below. Friends who cannot read Tamil fonts can solve the problem by installing 'ekalappai.exe', which is freely available for download.
Hi Natarajan, THis is an excellent write up. But u know what, there is already a film 'ponniyin selvan' in the making. But this features Dhanush. What a pity. Even if the real ponniyin selvan is filmed it has to be named differently ;-)))
Our cine people didn't even think of reserving that name.
Looking at the Film Industry, Tamil Film, does have a unique status. We have seen movies with Good music, Good story, Good acting, Good location and bcakground. And we have also taken care of the language part. Let is be, Senthamizh, Madras, Coimbatore, Madurai or Nellai Thamizh.
Not to under estimate skills, of our actors, music directors, directors, and other technicians.
We need all these at one place. If required, Tamil, actors and other associates, does not lag to perform, what is required.
Hope, the dream of everyone in this group, will come true, soon.
Very Good writeup !!! The full effect of all our most fav. metopian world of PS should be brought alive. This would inturn be very very difficult to picturize. But if done so it would be marvellous..
On the association of Mutts of today with the royals of history, I have some opinions,
The mutts of today are mostly Vedantin mutts, in south India those either belong to Sankara/Vaishnava-Ramanuja/Madhav parampara.
To my knowledge of history, these people had very little socio- political influence, at the top would be the persecution of Ramanuja by K II.
During chozha times the Vedic Brahmins had more influence than these to have socio-political impact was Vidyaranya of Sringeri Mutt who was the inspiration behind Harihara and Bukka of Vijayanagar.
Only during Vijayanagar period, did they gain considerable influence and have effectively iconised into being the heads of the Brahmin community. Again during Vijayanagar period Sayanacharya and Madhava did work on Vedic literature.
So even though such mutts existed in Chozha period, their influence has not be great enough to be passed down history.
