what does siva patha sekaran mean?--corrections by Dr.Jaybee
  • Dr.Jaybee corrected some mistakes I made.(I made another typo
earlier.Siva patha sekaran means wearing shiva's feet in his head.I
    wrote as wearing shiva's head)

Bala chandran too applies to ganesh it seems.Dr.Jaybee mailed as
    follows

    "Both the names are applicable.
Pala Chandran because He wears the full moon in the
centre of His fore-head. Bala Chandran when He wears the crescent
moon in His form as MahaGanapathi, Uchchishta Ganapathi,
    Herambha Ganapathi, Vallabha Ganapathi, etc.
The crescent moon is connected with the SankataHara
Ganapathi Vratham. SankataHara Chathurthi Vratham fulfilled after
Chandra Darisanam on the KrishnaPaksha Chathurthi.
You would have heard the Ganesa Pancharathnam
    of AdhiShankara.

    mudhakaraaththa mOdhakam
    sadhaa vimukthi saadhakam
    kalaadharaavathamsakam
    vilaasilOka rakshakam.

    >Sridhar means the "husband of lakshmi" sri-lakhsmi, dharan-
    >husband.

'Dharan' need not mean a husband.
    Means 'Wearer or Bearer'.
'Sri' resides in the chest of VishNu. She is in the
'SriVaksha' which is one of the lakshanas of VishNu.
    'Thirumaru maarban'.
    Thats what SriDharan means.
Compare with Gangadharan - the Bearer or Wearer
    on Ganga - Siva.
'SasiDharan' and 'Kalaadharan' is Siva - Wearer of the Moon
'ShakthiDharan' is Murugan. The Bearer of the
    weapon Shakthi.
'Chakradhaari' means the Bearer of Chakra.
    'Gadhaadharan' - bearer of gadhai.
An associated name - Chakrapaani, Saarangapaani,
    Dhandayudhapaani

    I will continue afterwards.....
  • Ok here goes :

Arun = Dawn .. figuratively.. literally.. Arun/Arunan is supposed to be the
charioteer of the Sun God. Thus in the morning when the Sun God's chariot is
supposed to ascend the horizon, you won't see the Sun God first.. Rather you
will see Arun/Arunan first.. That's why that period of the day (dawn) is
called ArunOdaya = Rise of Arun (Udaya = rise).

    :-)

    Arun
  • Thats a great interpretation of names Sampath. Good attempt. Many a
times I used to think, whether people know their names meaning, and
unfortunately todays generation mostly dont know the meaning of their
names. Your interpretation of my name is perfect. Generally we take
"achalam" as mountain. But the literal meaning is one which is
unshakable, which doesnt move. chalam is moving and a-chalam is one
that doesnt move. Since mountains doesnt move, we take that meaning
also. My father was born in Thiruvannamalai and hence named after the
lord Arunachaleshwarar, and I like that name very much.

When I read the "Thalicheri Kalvettu" by Dr.kkv, I really wondered
about the good tamil names of the Thalicheri pendugal. Poonguzhali,
Sendhan amudhan, Arul Mozhi,Kundhavai, what beautiful names.(Group
members, though the topic went away from the goups ideology of PS, I
brought it back to the main stream. so hope you dont mind this thread
which was not based on PS hahaahh... ).

Today people hesitate to name their kids in pure tamil form. Even our
traditional sanskrit names, like Arunachalam, are considered obselate
and they stic to two sylluble names. Atul, amit etc. If we see our
country's naming convention, all names will have a meaning, and mostly
it will be the name of the lord(shiva or vishnu).

Anyway, good that this thread will influence others to know their
names, if they had not known it till now.
  • Dear Sampath,SPS,Arun and Anand,

That was an interesting trail of name games...But for some strange reasons we all are tending to go towards small modern names...

Theres also a tendency towards A....Maybe the frustrated parents from the end of attendence order like myself...wait till S.....

So we decided on A...and called them Akhash Varun Rathinam and Akilesh Sakthi Rathinam....but fate they are called....Masters A V and A S Rathinam so they are still in the end of attendence....

Taking about names ...Sridhar Yes is Husband of Lakshmi ( Sri) or as Dr Jaybee has said Holder of Lakshmi( He has her in his heart ) or holder of wealth (Sri)

Interestingly on the same note of names...I have been privilaged in being mentioned in a olaichuvadi.....Nothing exiting...in my wifes Nadi Josiyam olai chuvadi...

Have been a bit reluctant in believing these....So when me and my wife were just married her parents were against it...She asked me a few questions one evening Sri is there any Lake or pond near your place in thanjavur...Yes. Do you have any moles(macham) on your joints I said yes on my left elbow...What about your Left Knee ..Well I dont Know We had a look and we identified one behind my left knee which surpriced us both... and I asked her why...

She is a skeptic as myself and said when my mother took me for nadijosiyam this was three years before they said

'You can try heaven and earth to search alliance for this girl nothing will work and one fine morning some one will come and take your daughter away..

Paiyanin peyar thirumaalin peyar( Sridhar)...Sigaiyil miga akkarai undu( I love my hair)

Veedin aruge Neernilai(There was a pond) irandu mutti aruge macham undu(l elbow and l knee)

    Thalaimagan anaal thalai magan illai.....

Everything was correct and we didnt know what the last one meant and when we went to India the next time my mother clarified it...Apparently when I was born the Josiyers had said this child will not survive and so they adviced a pariharam...

They took me to the putharu bank in front of the Big temple made a manikin( bommai) like a baby... and my mother gave me to a neighbour and threw the manikin in the water and did iruthi sadagu for the manikin( her child) and returned home empty handed...

I went to the neighbours house with her and then my mother adopted me from her!!!

There you go thalaimagan anal thalai magan ilai!!

Dr Jaybee used to write a lot about the nadis before
  • Dr.Rathnam,

    I too experienced it.But it wasnt nadi.He was a stranger.Met him in
a cloth store. He had a narashimar vigraham in his hand.came for
alms.I gave him 1rs.After talking for 2 minutes he said "you will
suffer horribly till 27 and then you will have rajayogam".I did not
believe it.He said "I dont want money from you.But if you dont
believe me go and check your hamstrings. You will have 2 moles close
to each other in the back of your right hamstring".

I did not check it.But then soon I had a major crisis. It lasted for
4 years.I still dont know how i survived it.I dont know whether its
miracle or not but it stopped one month after my 27th birthday. Then
I remembered it,checked my hamstring and there were 2 moles next to
    each other.

Then as he said things went on for good.I got married within a month
came to USA and now facing a bright future.I am still wondering
about the whole episode. My wife doesnt believe it till date.

If anybody sees a samiyar like man with narashimmar statue in his
hands coming to alms you can recognize him.He did not tell his name.

Howdy, Stranger!
