princess and commoner love
  • We all read in PS and many historical novels that queens like kundavai
married commoners by loving. My doubt is whether it would have been
possible.I thought that they never had any sort of movement outside
the palace or access to commoners. They must have only met the princes
who come in as guests and must have fallen in love.

Historically I have seldom heard of a princess marrying a commoner or
even falling in love.Prithviraj samyuktha story is love story, but even
there she met him when her father and prithviraj were friends.

except small kurunila mannars this princess, commoner love story seldom
    happened i guess.

have you guys heard of such princess, commoners love stories which are
    real?
  • Dear Sampath
Thank you for starting a wonderful thread and respecting the wishes

Kundavai married Vandhiyadevan its a historic fact..He was a prince
    and may be a pauper....

Kalkis potrayal of vaname koorai and bhoomiye veedu might be his
    romanticised version....

Secondly in atleast Chola Kimgdom the women were involved in many
social events including charity and building temples and athura
saalais hospitals Thats well recorded in history...

I understand only the Pandiya dynasty had the ruling rights for the
females as well I may be wrong read it somewhere...

As for a historic novels are concerned they always use a person of
lesser prominence of history as the hero with the main historic
figure more n the background because the author can then use his
    imaginations widely...

    Examples are countless

    Vandiyadevan RR Chola PS
    Paranchothi Mammallar SS
    Vikraman Mammallar PK
    Ilanchezian Karikalam Yavanarani
    Ilaya Pallavan Kulothungan Kadalpura
    Vijayakumaran Clive Rajaperigai
    Ilango Rajendra Vengaiyin Mainthan

    the list is countless

  • Hi,
Very long ago, the serial was telecasted in DD and 4
or 5 years ago, Jaya TV did a repeat telecast of the
    same.
Venu Arvind played "Raghavan" and was damn good. The
grey shades of the character were brought out well.
The actresses who played Sita and Dharini hardly
resembled each other, though they were supposed to in
    the novel.
    But still good performances.
  • Dear Sampath
    Thank you
We have so much to discuss as it is evident in the recent mail trails

    > about destruction of temples, duty of every youth of tamilnadu to stop
    > invaders....in the fifth part of ponniyin selvan.

    > To quote MGR "Thirudana pathu thirundavitta thiruttai
    > olikka mudiyathu"....As long as people want to fight, they can always
    > find any reason to fight....at any place on earth.
