Meykeerthis
  • Dear.

    In our files section, Pandyas' Meykeerthis are neatly filed.

    Rajaraja's "Thirumagal pola .... " is scanned from a book and filed in the
    phots section;

    A month back, I have sent Rajendra's " Thirumanni valara ... " also to the
    photo section - along with three photos sent by another Group member - on
    Rajaraja Nadakam to the photo section.

    RR's meykeerthis comprised of a Sanskrit part and Tamil part;

    Raajendra's too was in similar pattern.

    Most of the South Indian inscriptions of RR & Rj follow the pattern :

    " Swasthi shree ... Kovirajakesari / kopparakesari .. panmarrkku ..
    yaandu... "thirumagal pola ... " or " Thirumanni valara ... " ....
    Rajaraja thevarkku ... or Rajendra thevarkku ... " the the details of the
    inscriptions ...."

    The victories correspond to the years of their Rule ..

    But not all the inscriptions contain all the descriptions ... even though
    they belong to a particular year ...

    Recently, ASI has brought out South Indian inscriptions volumes ..
    Available for sale at ASI, Chennai and ASI, Mysore. Appxly a volume costs
    about Rs. 150/- Not all the volumes avl. One can go through the volumes in
    ASI library - located within the Fort St George. Then decide to purchase
    if interested.

    Privately Dr. Kalaikkovan's father Dr.Rasamaickanar Historical Research
    Institute has brought out impressive books on Maamallapuram Darmaraja Ratham
    known as "Adyanthakaamam" - "Thalicheri kalvettugal" - "Pazhuvur
    pudhayalgal" etc. costing around 150 - 200 each.

    Dr. Kudavoil has also brought out a book on Gopurakkalai costing around Rs.
    200. Those interested can gift such books for New year or so ..

    This is by no way a sales-promotion message. Just sharing details.

    incidentally, it is Sundara Pandian -I meykeerthi - which confirms that
    Nandhipuram of Chozhas was a Ponmaligai which existed near Thiruvaiyaru /
    Thirukkndiyur (where Sundara Chozha died and Vanamadevi performed Sathi )
    and not at Kanchipuram as popularly believed!

    fondly, sps
