Greatest servent of cholas----my take
  • I divide it as groups, not as individuals

1)without a single ounce of selfishness---
    anirudhar,alwarkadiyan,kalanthakakandar,periya
    paluvettarayar,malayaman,kundavai,sundara chola,arun mozhi,sendan
    amuthan and sembian madevi,sendan amuthan

    2)with a bit of selfishness----puthi vikramakesari

3)people who wanted to achieve their own means--vandiya
    devan,parthibendran,athitha karikalan.

4)people who served due to their love on individuals and not on
    country--mandakini,manimegalai,poongulali

5)Totally selfish ones--all sitrarasars like rettai kudai
    rajaliar,sambuvarayar etc.

my explanation for these group classifications.

All the people in the first group wanted chola empire to become the
greatest empire in the world. They believed it can be achieved thru
their own methods and played politics but none in this group ever
let loose of this dream.Periya paluvettarayar was taken off track by
nandhini who made him believe that her plans were for betterment of
chola empire. But as he says at his death bed "He never did anything
against chola emperor or the king".These people had this selfless
    dream in their mind.

Puthi vigramakesari too falls in the first group actually but he had
a small selfishness in that dream. He wanted his daughter to marry
arunmozhi and become the ruler of chola empire. So i created a new
list for him even though he should have been in the first list.

vandiya devan wasnt even a chola.Initially he wantes to establish a
independent vanar desam and keeps on talking about it but in end
falls prey to kundvai and merges with cholas.Parthibendran wants to
create pallava desam and dies in that process in end.Athitha
karikalan was mad on war.He just wants an army to ransack and doesnt
worry about who the king is.He is affected by nadnhini and is even
ready to forego the empire for her.

Fourth and fifth list are implicit.
