Gadag is the district headquarter of the district bearing same name. There are many temples of interest in this small city. Though it was far from Balligave, however the Kalamukha sect was very much active in the town. A Kalamukha teacher in the lineage of the Balligave teachers adorned the town and he became the royal preceptor of the Hoysala kings.
The architecture in Gadag adapted its own style and this style was later known as the Gadag style.
