It is 10 miles to the east of Kumbakonam. There are three Idai Marudurs. One is srisailam in Andhra Pradesh, and that is called Mallikarjuna. Another is Ambasamudram – Sputarjunam – in Tirunelveli district Tamilnadu. Anjunam means maruda tree and in between the two is Thiruvidaimarudur – Mathyarjunam. This place has several names – Shanbagaranyam, Sakipuram, Tapovanam, Muktipuram etc. The temple has five circuits including the street. In the west entrance is Bhadrakiri and in the east is Pattinathar. The temple faces east. At first we see a small Nandi, and then another big Nandi.
