south east asian temples and cholans
  • friends,
past few days i have been browsing through the temples of ASEAN region. there are many striking cholan model temples in burma, laos, thailand, combodia and indonesia.

more is true about the burmese temples. one bagan dynasty which is a contemporary of the imperial cholans(850-1250).
it must have had either a fiendly or hostile relationship with cholans. there are good evidences about such relations with kmher regime, thai kings and srivijaya empire. iam unable to see such evidences with this BAGAN empire.

one piece of suspicion arises when we see the bagan empire maps. that is the coastal burma. it is not shown as part of the empire while many maps show that coastal strip as area of cholan influence.

can it be taken as a fact that cholans where occupying that coastal strip? because no other empire existed at this time to control this strip.
