Ramayanam before Kamban 60 - Dharmapur- more inscriptions
  • I have some more details with me now on Dharmapuri

    1. ARE 1901 No 36 - Also SII VII No 532 - Kannada of Nolamba Kongunivarma - from a pillar of this temple.

This record mentions a land gift to Bhairava Sakthi Bhattara.

This may be the one yogi shown in the pillar - who give relief to a Gandhrava from being a dog. ( ref images in the album) There is another image in another pillar ( which unfortunately i have not taken the pictures) of the yogi pacifying durga. The Yogi may be the refered Bhattara. The name is associated with Saktha worship.

    2. The inscription i referred as of Kulothunga III is also viewed as that of Kulothunga 1 by some.

    3. There is another inscription of Kulothunga II recorded from the same temple ( RY 12 - AD 1145) where in it is mentioned that Pammaraguttan, Puliyur Kilavan Tambiran Cholan, the servant of Adiyan did the Thiruppirudiit and Thiruppudukka sandu services to Tiruvelalisvaramudayar temple in Tagadur. ( ARE 1901 303 ) This supports that the earlier inscription must be of Kulothunga 1 and not 3.
