I am going through various inscriptions of ( pre 12th) of Coimbatore, Erode , Salem and Dharmapuri districts w.r.to Ramayanam series.
I came across an interesting inscription in Pariyur, near Gobichettipalayam.- of Virapandiya. ARE 1910-185
Kings remitting the tax - Vottachchu. on a number of siva temples in the vada kongu country listing many nadus.
It is stated that the tax Vottachchu which these temples were paying early being subsequently found difficult to pay after meeting the daily expenses and hence altogether abolished. It was ordered that in accordance with the agreement with the Koothadumnayanar, the managers of these temples were not to pay any further taxes even on production of king's order (olai)
1. No frivolous demands tom pay any further taxes even on the production of King's order 2. No frivolous demands from chiefs who take possession of the districts 3. In remuneration the servants who carry the King's order one panam - ie one panam for orders carrying King's signature or Orders which were issued under royal consent 4.That the King's messengers need not be paid any traveling expenses and food - not even a handful of rice. 5. The Panams mentioned above need be paid only by who had been paying already
