I have travelled this area very very extensively and stayed in Kaattu Mannargudi several nights- about 15 - 20 years back !!
Veeranarayanaperumal koil Keezhakkadambur - Uthirapatheeswarar (was so much dilapidated and full of snakes then - though it was under State Archeology )..
Uthirapatheeswarar invoked special memories of Bhairagi asking for Thalakkari (Head flesh of child) in Thrichenkottangudi - re Sivagamiyin sabatham Paranjothi turned Siruthondar - Seerala - Thiruvengaattunangai episode !!
Of course Melakkadambur - our Vijayan has been writing so much on the Dancing Siva .. Manada Mayilada ( Thevaram lines - which is now made more pupular in the Visual Media through a Dance programme !!) of Bengal Origin... !! This was also supposed to be a war-trophy !!
Between Keezha ( East) Kadambur & Mela (West) Kadambur should have been situated our famous Sambuvarayar palace (where Vandhiyathevan witnesses the unfotunate meeting and Devaralan dance !) ...
There was a dry lake with several Sivalingas scattered !!
Dr. Kalikkovan observed in of our meetings that Sambuvarayas were not contemporaries to Pazhuvur Kings - but much later !!??
This is towards south of VN Perumal temple.
On the South East - Thirumoolathanam (ancient Siva temple ) Rajendra Cholanagam etc.,
Again back to VN Perumal. North of this is located Antheeswarar Siva Temple and farther down Veeranam Lake !!
Inscriptions describe Veeman Kundavai Vaykkal, Ganapathi Vaykkal etc.
Eastern road leads to Chidambambaram (via) Thirunaraiyur - Nambiandar Nambi fame - with Pollappillayar !!
Imagine - Parantaka I - who constructed the Siva temple Anantheeswara - who golden roofed the Chidambaram !!
Imagine the Vaishnava settlements by his wife Veeranarayani !!
And the cultivable lands around this lake are soaked in with lake-stagnated under-water for more than 11 Centuries !!
This is erstwhile Veeranarayana Chaturvedi Mangalam !!
