    Siva temple crying for attention

    By Our Staff Reporter

THANJAVUR, JUNE 4. An ancient Siva temple at Arcot
village near Thirukattupalli here is in ruins.

An inscription in the temple revealed that the
renovation was taken up on January 15, 1775 A.D. and
the kumbabishekam performed on July seven the same
    year.

According to Kudavayil Balasubramanian and T.M.
Serfoji of Saraswathi Mahal Library, the 2000 year-old
village has reference in Sangam literature, which
described its beauty. Kings of the Sangam period lived
    in the village.

The temple has Pallava period Nagaraja scultpure,
Kulothunga Chola sculpture and many chola period
    sculptures.
