Mahendra's 8 verses inscribed in Pallava Grandha in brief (very roughly translated):
1. King GUNABARA has established himself along with Lord Siva by sculpturing STHANU @ Siva at the top of this Hill by creating this Stone temple.
2. King Chatrumallar has created this for the GIREESAN who wedded Parvathi - the Daughter of the King of Mountains !
3. " How can I look at the glory of the Cholas from the temples on the banks of the beautiful Cauvery ? " asked Lord Siva. King Gunabara created this Hilltop temple to make Siva happier.
4. By creating this great feat for Lord Siva, the King has meaningfully converted a larger extent of this hill.
5. (This is a beautiful verse.) Parvathi ( Malaimagal) left Parvatharajan to stay HERE with Siva for ever - because Siva already fond of Rivers ( Ganges !) - would fall in love with Cauvery - who is more attractive, cool and lovable !
6. King Gunabara - who changed his FAITH to worship LINGA - has been spreading his renowned Faith for longer time.
7. On this Hill which is considered as Crown of the Cholas, Sankara is the Light and it is him who is Shining !
8. This Sculptured Form shall remain everlasting of the SATHYASANDHAN (King) in this World !
