saiva siddhantham-8
  • thiruchitrambalam

the importance of the first sootram of the sivagnanabodham is, the beginning of the existential understanding of the soul itself. the soul begins its worldly existence in the triad of the father-mother-child triad. this triad in saiva siddhantham is is tha basics of the saiva knowledge.

the soul begins the journey of worldly life hence it appears then lives and then it dissappears. this three forms of beginning, experiencing and dying is second mandatory process.

these two process are done by the siva.

the reason for the soul's journeys are to get rid of its three important contaminations(malam). three contaminants are the anavam(affect)kanmam(psychomotor) and maya(cognitive).

the three contaminants are inside the soul and it gets itself cleansed of this gradually by repeated births. this process is also done by the sivam.

the child in psycho-analytic terms begins the journey alone in the womb. then it is cared by the mother. later nurtured by the father till he becomes adult. then the person begins another cycle of meeting a woman and creating an another child. this is a never ending process. this is called metaphysical gynecology.

margaret mahler (psycho-analyst of the 1960s)says the child inside the womb is in an autistic stage that it can experience only itself but does now who it is, and later after the delivery it knows the mother and develops the mirror image of itself and then get to know itself. the psycho-analytic theories of freud says the meeting of father and later the advancement into sexual maturity to become an adult completes the cycle of development of mind.this is is the fundamental concept in saiva siddhantham also. the soul does not know itself till it joins the sakthi and sivam.

thus we understand the first sootram of SGB explaining the basic concept of the psycho-analytics of the soul.
