• Srimath Srimath Ramayana "NAVARASAS"

    Valmiki's srimath Ramayana has been dealt with for centuries by several eminent writers and people are not at all tired of reading and enjoying them any number of times. The personalities of Rama and sita are deeply embedded in the minds o the people and therefore several adaptations have been written and published by scholars in different languages. The epic of Rama and Sita as narrated by Valmiki is so fascinating and full of enjoyable and philosophical statements keeping the reader totally engrossed without a single dull moment. Beased on Valmiki's Ramayan, there are several other popular works as Adhyatma Ramayana, Vasishtha Ramayana, Anand Ramayana, and Agastya Ramayana in Sanskrit and Kamba Ramayana in Tamil. Tulsidas Ramayan inHindi, Kritivasa Ramayana in Bengali and Ezythachan's Adhyatma Ramayana in Malayalam etc. The book by Shri.U.Ve.T.R.Kuppuswamy Iyengar cannot be brushed aside as just one more book of Ramyana. The Author is a great Sanskrit Scholar endowed with wide knowledge on a variety of subjects, though his specialty is Valmiki Ramayana. A perusal of the contents of the books clearly shows the Author clever arrangement of topics to maintain the reader's interest throughout. Furthermore, the author's analytical approach and penchant for meticulous details on the chosen subjects are clearly seen till the end. There are three parts in the book. The first is about Valmiki's "NAVARASAS" in Ramayana, the second about Valmiki's powerful words and expressions couched in beautiful artistic languages, spread over twenty five chapters, and the third is about Valmiki's decorative similes. The translation in Tamil is easily understandable and the Author's style is pleasing and enjoyable. In particular, I have to mention the Author's wonderful research in Chapter25 of part II wherein he states that the language used by hanuman and Sita in their conversation the SUNDARAKANDA was Tamil and not Sanskrit. His conclusion may not be acceptable to all, but his erudition and logic cannot be disputed. Similarly, in Chapter 9 of part II, the Author brilliantly brings out the facts as to how Ramayana contains many Vaishnavaite tenets and make a special mention "Sarira Sariri Bhava and Bhagavata Sesgatvum are quite good. "was Ram the ideal always and every movement, in big matters and in small, to the grat ones and the little ones? If so, he was a bloodless robot, an impossible prig, mounted on stilts and hardly visible in perspective" "May Rama and Sita sit for ever enthroned in our hearts?"
