PS always reveals something new
  • hi friends

PS is such a great work of fiction, that each time you read and re read it does throw up new surprises. I lost a bet with a friend who tested my knowledge of PS, basically in recalling characters. It was no trick question - it was a question on a very small but interestingly portrayed episode in the 2nd book ( suyar kaatru) athiyaayam 31. Yelela singan koothu. the episode talks of a legend of a tamil general who led his brave soilders and over ran Lanka. He was Yelela singan. The King of Lanka fled and lived in the forests. However his son - dhastagamanu was a brave and fearless warrior. even while young, his mother found him twisted in bed and when she questioned him, he said the tamil forces and constricting him from one side and the sea on the other. How does she expect him to be free !!

growing up, he musters a small army and tries to engage yelele singan. the army is outnumbered and flees, the smart boy that he is, seeks a one on one battle with yelele singan ( ondikondi vareelaa??)and that the winner will get the reign of lanka. being a brave man singan accepted, telling his aides not to interfere.

the battle rages on, dhatagamanu fights with lot of aggression to assert his birth right (??) but singan is not fighting at his best, as he is compassionate for the boy. in the end singan gets killed.

after his coronation, dhatagamanu, built a palli paadai temple for yelela singan right at the spot where he fell, and praised his benevolence and valor.

kalki, doesnt stop at this, he even makes amv ask tirumalai .... the fight between dhatagamanu and yelele singan is painting inside the dhambula caves. have you seen it??

anyone, from lanka - would you know if this painting still there.

are there any historical supportings for this yelele singan. what made kalki bring his story here.
