Thirumalai Thirudan - Ramanuja Vs Kirumi Kanda Chozhan
  • I started reading this Novel by Dhivakar today. While I was reading
the introduction part, I see that Dhivakar has attempted to clarify
the open ends in Ramanuja & Koorathazhwan episodes. That was really
interesting. In fact his assessment that AdhiRajendra could have been
the Kirumi Kanda Chozhan, goes well with all logical reasonings. The
fact that Historians have accepted that AdhiRajendra had a severe
disease during his end times and also the original Chozha dynasty
came to end after him, goes well with the traditional Vaishnavite
accounts like "Koil Ozhugu" and "Guru Parampara" etc.

However only one thing that is still unclear is that, the traditional
accounts, while describing the return of Ramanuja to Srirangam,
observes that, Ramanuja returned after Kulothunga's death (let us
accept the name as Kulothunga for argument sake) and his son, Vikrama
observed that his father erred in trying to remove Vaishnavism. (I
had reported those lines in the previous messages).

Assuming that the name Kulothunga, could be a misnomer, I wonder how
the mention of Vikrama Chozha, the actual successor also could be a
misnomer. However, if Kulothunga I is considered as Kirumi Kanda
Chozhan, then obviously, the Chozha dynasty did not end with him and
this goes well for AdhiRajendra. (Yappaa..!!!! Thalaya Sutthudhuppa)

So it is really confusing right now as to who is actually Kirumi
Kanda Chozhan, Kulothunga I or AdhiRajendra? Discounting Kulothunga I
due to his well recorded affiliations to Vinnagarams, one could well
conclude, like Dhivakar, that AdhiRajendra was the actual guy, which
leaves us wondering only on 2 untied knots.

    1. How come the successor is recorded as Vikrama Chozha in the
traditional accounts while in reality Kulothunga I should have been
the successor, instead the Kirumi Kandan's name is mentioned as
    Kulothunga I

    2. If AdhiRajendra was the Kirumi Kanda Chozha, he was in rule only
for two years. But the accounts talk about Ramanuja being in exile
for more than 2 years definitely, while actually they record it as 12
years. If he was in exile for 12 or 2 years, he could have come back
only during Kulothunga-I's time and not Vikrama Chozhas time.

I presume that, if the above two knots are untied, then the mystery
of Who is Kirumi Kanda Chozhan could be easily concluded.
