Balakumaran Interview & Ponniyin Selv
  • Hi,

    > I like BK too, remember 'mercury pookal' and many of his stories
    > serialised in AV. When I was an avid reader my first impression of
    > him was that he copied, sometimes shamelessly from Thi Ja's style of
    > writing. I need to read actual books again for examples, my
    > apologies.

*copied* is a more stonger and offensive word to use on a celebrated
writer unless you could prove the exact reference.

hi siva, i would have loved if he had copied atleast the character
outlines of PS into udayar....after completing PS when we get raving
mad ( like all of us) burning with the thirst to read more of the
cholas - i too tried to gather every book - udayar 5 books -
unfortunately ( already written by view) cant get past 2/3 rd...the
depictions of sembian madevi is ........
  • I have no proof am sorry, but there is lot of debate
and material on the internet also regarding this, as
someone said BK is regarded as an insult even to Thi
    Ja.
  • You are partially right as per Balakumaran. He accepts that initially
he took writing style from Sujatha and took the man woman relationship
from Thi. Ja. And he adds that he dropped those after he had his own
    style.
