Project Madurai is an open and voluntary initiative to collect and publish free electronic editions of ancient tamil literary classics. This means either typing-in or scanning old books and archiving the text in one of the most readily accessible formats ("ETEXTS") for use on all popular computer platforms. All etexts will be distributed in both web/html and PDF formats.- Distributed through the World Wide Web servers , anyone located anywhere may download a copy for personal use or read what we publish on the internet, free of charge.
....meaning these have been painstakingly keyed in tamil by volunteers all over the world ( from digitized/ scanned copies)...capturing these works for eternity and distributing it over the net for free ( honoring copyright of course)
Hi Dr. K. Kalyanasundaram's project madurai service is novel, and has far reaching consequences and reactions. with almost the entire copyright free tamil texts under one roof it minimises strain and labour for research and certainly will spur on research and new writings. we are proud to have nephew of Dr. KK in the group.
As a new member would ask you to go through our archives.....wealth of information on topics covering a wide gamut of chola n south indian history r covered. We are all looking for small nuggets of informtion to post n share and we understand that not all can be original stuff nor r all our members scholars ( though a select few are) ...u r free to post these, as long as u can take a couple of min to check if its already in our archives ...and more importantly provide the due credit to the author or site where u got it from... They hv toiled hrad for just this ounce of recognition n selflessly put it on the net for free..atleast gv them their credits n ur good wishes / blessings. No offence meant
www.chennailibrary.com also is a very good site where one can read many of the tamil litrature online. You cannot download but can read everything online for free. If needed, I think we can order for CD's at a nominal cost.
