SRIRANGAM :: KULOTHUNGA I & II - GRANTS
  • Dear Vijay,

following references, posted a year back in our Group!

    SPS wrote on 2.9.2006 :

ASI has devoted exclusively Vol XXIV - more than 600 pages in (full
scape) to this Volume, published in 1982. In the Introduction it
mentions "Ramanujacharya, the great apostle of the Vasistadvaitham
Srivaishnavism spent as many as 60 yrs of his long life as
Aministrative head of the temple and effected many reforms .." ( He
    lived during 1017 for 120 years - 1136).
    No.1 is AR 69 of 1892 attributed to Aditya I (AD 871 - 907) to No:
189 is Chozha period .. upto post Kulothinga I.

ASI adds "To Kulotunga I belong the bulk of the inscriptions 26 to
108 -( 81 inscriptions ( !) and the majority of them are confirned
3rd parakaram range date from 10th to the 48th year .. reclamation
of land. donor purchasing land from temple authorities for periodic
supply of grain, flowers etc. "

Kulothunga I ruled from 1070 to 1122 AD with Vikramachozhan
    overlapping 1118 to 1135 AD. Vikrama's 13th year is AD 1130. There
were grants almost every year and in 1140 AD there was a grant by
    Kulothunga II.as well.

It is evidenced that during the 120 years of lifetime of Sri
Ramanujar uninterruptedly Chozha dynasty has given grants to
Srirangam temple as could be seen from more 120 inscriptions ..

    PRANAMS TO SAINT SRI RAMANUJAR.

ENNAYIRAM : Our members are familiar with this place. On our trip
to Thanjavur, we got down about 10 Km after Tindivanam and found a
recent stone pointing the direction of Ennayiram :: Kavi
Kalamegam's birth place. There are stories that 8000 Jains were
    put on Kazhu.
Another story that Ashta Saharsra Brahmins hail from this place.
however as desired by SARVA SIVA PNDITHAR - GURU OF RAJENDRA I - a
Siva temple was constructed .. nearby place is Esalam where copper
plates confirming that Aditha Karikalan put Veerpandian's head at
the Fort Entrance of Thanjai was found about 20 years back...
