one family in kerala royalty provided a nayanmar, an alvar and a king who was perhaps one of the earliest converts to islam.
kannadasan wrote a book on this- cheraman kathali and got he sahitya academy award for it I think.
after that king, kerala was divided in many samll kingdoms the legend s go on to say.
there is a mosque in kerala called cheraman mosque. but then we have to treat these with a little doubt and not jump to conclusions. kerala unlike tamiulnadu had royalty ruling till 1947 and there was scope for many kings to take this name.
