Wonderful discussions past few days. I am really enjoying being part of this group.Thank you.
Speaking of nationalism, I do belive in Parthiban Kananu, Maharaja Pratiban had a beautiful dream of a "United Tamilnadu". In that book Mammallar, came off as quite a nice person :) I can't help but wonder if both kings had better communication, that dream would have been realised without all that bloodshed.
It definitely is a point to ponder about. However, had they both talked it out, i believe the outcome would have been sub optimal
a) the chola subjects would not have had the same respect for Parthiban, b) Vikraman would not have been able to venture out to far seas and establish the Chola presence there -which I think was a foundation for the latter day raja rajas and rajendras c) Kundavai may not have married the son of a lesser king who pays his respects to a stronger emperor (Pallava) rather than a free willed and plucky person in Vikraman trying his utmost to reclaim the lost land
History would have taken a different course not necessary beneficial to the Cholas. What say....
