i think the department is going to organise an "international" seminar on the issue of this harappan pattern on neolithic axe. a bold initiative, hope the international community accepts IM's identification. those who want to satisfy themsleve may visit me at asi, chennai to get a first hand knowledge about neolithic axes and the patterns generated on them by way of pecking and grounding. archaeology is more about common sense (most uncommon commodity), careful observation and a keen self-questioning attotitude. do not jump into conclusions just because you like your conclusions. sriraman, asi, fort museum

I liked those words Mr.Sriraman. many a time I have observed people deciding the conclusions even before putting on the pillaiyar suzhi in archaeological discoveries. in fact one set of books( though it may seem unrelated ) I recommend for any amatuer archeologist is the agatha christie series. agatha christie herself was the wife of a professional archeologist and herself dabbled in all this. many of her stories are based on the nile and mesopotamia. the charcters that sriraman says like self questioning attitude, restraining oneself from jumping to conclusions as well as observation and common sense are needed for both detectives and archeologists.
of late , rushing to the press is unfortunately a very bad habit for both fields.
