An interesting trivia about Marudhanayagam - he did not have ear lobes. They were cut off as a punishment. He used to wear a turban in such a way that no nody can find it out!
Gouthama Neelambaran's serial story 'Marudhanayagam' in Kumudam was a good one. S.Balasubrmaniam's 'Pon Andhi' serialized in Devi magazine is one of the best historical novels I've ever read.
It beautifully outlines Marushanayagam's early days, his friendship with Robert Clive(!), his love affair with Masha - a french woman and his later days as a Commander.
His act of opposing the british is a delight to read. But, to whom he owed allegiance is a big question . I don't think I would call him a freedom fighter. But, he was a great warrior and a leader!
