Very much. Sometimes many.
There is no way to correct letters in stone !
Also there is a case where people of kulothunga times were unable to read an earlier inscription a few centuries old ! They employ a person who wrongly reads the ancient inscription and recopies it !
But the important thing to note is - they were absolutely careful and cautious about every inscription. When the temple is demolished for renovations, all the earlier inscriptions are carefully copied back.
