its a big story why I chose to write my novels under that name.

My first Tamil Novel was Kaviri mainthan- a sequel to Kalki’s Ponniyin selvan. my second novel was Thillaiyil Oru Kollaikaran.

This Year I chose not to write novels so i could spend time with my son who had his public exam.

My third and fourth novels will be released in 2009. they are titled ‘Kanchi’ and ‘Madurai’

you will read their prolouges soon on this blog.

Vijay’s Note about Mr. Venkatesh

Vijay’s Note about Mr. Venkatesh

How i met venkat.

I was on a holiday in chennai during july 2007 and sps sir as usual managed to string a quick meeting. We met in his office in mandaveli and it was here i met two of my greatest influences. ( i later met Prof. Swaminathan sir also there) – Mr. Divakar and Mr. Venkat. Mr. Divakar was showing the first copies of Vichitracithan to Sps sir (and he gave me an autographed copy – even before the official launch). I was searching for Venkat’s kaveri Mainthan – as usual after reading ponniyin selvan, my endless thirst to read anything that was associated with the cholas and as sequel to PS was mouthwatering.

We had a quick meeting and adjourned for a dinner at Savera. Seethalaxmi madam was also there, sivaram as well. It was quite a crowded table and was a memorable event.

I searched the next day in chennai and finally managed to get KM ( all 3 volumes) from Higgin Bottams. I was already into part 2 when i landed back in singapore. As i literally burnt the midnight oil to complete – the tension was gripping. Venkat’s style so closely resembled my master Kalki’s, and the characters seemed to seamlessly move from PS ending to KM starting. Without even realising it i was nearing the end of third volume..when tragedy stuck. Faulty binding and i was stuck with some main pages missing in the climax. I didnt know what to do, so back to psvp and this mail.

not sure if you recd this before. My copy of KM ( volume 3) puchased from higgin bottoms chennai – is missing pages 313 – 328. instead the pages 329 – 344 are repeated…

I did not expect to receive any reply, just wanted to give vent to my frustration, when lo, venkat sends me the missing pages same day. Such was his commitment, that we immediately stuck a rapport. From then on it was no looking back, he then sent me his first attempt at historical fiction, Madurai ( in english) coming out in tamil pretty soon. I was zapped, the power and speed of the narration – and what a starting line. It takes great guts to do that in your first attempt, and to me that signifies what Venkat stands for, an author who writes his mind, who is not afraid of criticism and who lives with his characters.

We shared many interesting mails since and the next round of madness was when we discussed the Kamboja stone in chidambaram. I am not sure how much i helped but we lived every line of his next work, Thillaiyil Oru Kollaikaran and the greatness in him, even my small contributions he acknowleged in his foreword.

Cheers venkat and cant wait to see Madurai in tamil soon.

Writer Venkat Dhivakar’s Note

Writer Venkat Dhivakar’s Note

VENKAT (Anusha), most of time surprises me – On any topic, given at any time, he has knowledge at hand. Whenever I interact with him, I tell myself that, not only am I talking to a writer who has intense knowledge on the subjects, but also feel like talking to a ‘Sivanadiyaar’. He has visited almost all ‘paadal petra’ temples in India. He has very broad mind too. I have just given an ordinary link of some sources for his ‘Thillaiyil Oru Kollaikkaaran. But Venkatesh has thanked me in his preface. This also surprised me

I guess he is doing research on Kalki’s lifetime, for a future work. I wish him all success.
